A Greener Flame – Sustainability at Milis
Sustainability - not just in what we make, but how we make it.
All of our candles and wax melts are hand-poured in small batches in my garden workshop in Ireland. I currently use 100% soy wax sourced from the US, but I’m actively testing European soy options with the aim of reducing the air mileage and brining it even closer to home. I’ve also recently introduced a rapeseed and coconut wax blend for wax melts, another clean-burning, renewable alternative hitting the website soon!
There are many types of vegetable waxes out there, and I believe it’s less about the wax itself and more about working with suppliers who share our values. If we all relied on just one source, that too would become unsustainable.
Our packaging is fully paper-based - no plastic in sight and our glass jars are reusable or recyclable. I also reuse packing paper from my own deliveries for wholesale orders, and we don’t include any paper receipts or slips as everything is digital. You will see the mark of responsible forestry on the boxes we choose to purchase.
Every Milis order is delivered via An Post, who use electric vehicles across their national network.
And one more thing, I would truly love to be solar powered. It’s absolutely on the cards for Milis, but I’ll be honest: I just wish the grants were better! It’s something I’m working toward, and I’m excited for the day we can take that next step.
At Milis, sustainability isn’t a buzzword , it’s a series of real, thoughtful choices we make every day.
